5th Grade Service Project

Students from this year's 5th grade made beautiful handmade
cards to provide holiday cheer to local senior citizens. The staff at
Sudbury Pines Extended Care were so appreciative to receive over 60 cards. They were eager to hand them out, as this has been a particularly challenging time for the residents as they isolate from family members.

The 5th grade students were creative and thoughtful in their messaging, wishing all a safe and happy holiday season. Some students wrote jokes and others created beautiful origami attached inside the cards.

We are so proud of the 5th grade students for taking time at home to create such beautiful holiday cards.

The PTO received a wonderful thank you note from our Specialists!
Staff Spotlight

Meet our school nurse Anne Chabot!

Mrs. Chabot has been one of our hometown heroes for many years but has really been in the spotlight as we depend on her guidance and care through this pandemic.

She holds a Bachelors in Nursing from Fairfield University and a Masters in Nursing from Boston University. Prior to coming to Nixon she was a Staff Nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital on the Bone Marrow Transplant unit, a Staff Nurse at BU Medical Center Neurological Respiratory Unit and Head Nurse at BU Medical Center Medical Oncology Unit.

Anne has been a valued member of our community during the 30 years she lived in Sudbury, 27 of which she has been our Nixon School nurse. She moved to Stow 2 years ago but is still supporting our greater community by being a member of the Sudbury Medical Reserve Corp, working with the Sudbury Board of Health assisting with pandemic contact tracing efforts, and recently volunteered her time to administer influenza vaccinations at Sudbury's drive through clinics (as shown in the photo!). Starting Friday, she will be administering the COVID-19 vaccine to community members at regional clinics.

She has two children, a son Andrew, and daughter Julianne, who both attended Nixon School and now are living in the Boston area. She has been married for 35 years to her husband, Richard. They enjoy taking walks in the Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge together and love going to Maine and spending summers at Higgins Beach in Scarborough. For the time being, she is practicing her yoga and looking forward to getting together with friends again after the pandemic is over.

She says:

"My mother always reminds me that, starting at a young age, I always wanted to be a nurse. I love, love, love my time at Nixon. Getting to work with families over many years as they transition through the Nixon School is wonderful."

Her experiences in the hospital setting with Transplant, Oncology and Respiratory care have given her the perfect pedigree to care for our kids during this pandemic. Those disciplines are all about infection prevention! With her 27 years experience in pediatric care and her dedication to the health of our community, there is no doubt that she is one of the key components to our success. So, the next time you see her, please extend a Thank You for the hard work she does.

We need your help!

We would love to be able to hold virtual social events for students to connect with each other in a fun way, however we need volunteers to make this happen!

Please help us by volunteering to host a virtual club. The students will be provided with self-guided activities to do during the sessions. The goal is simply to get them interacting through a shared interest.

Your volunteer commitment would be:

  • 30 minutes, once per week for three weeks
  • A day and time that works with your schedule
  • Log on and monitor for appropriate language and behavior

Go to Get Involved - Volunteer to show your interest.

January Appreciation

TAKE NOTE: We think you are just WRITE and hap-PEN to be doing an INK-credible job! Keep up the good work!

Who receives appreciation initiatives?

We know that all of the people who work in our school house are equally responsible for making it a wonderful place for our students. All employees of Nixon school, part time and full time, in all roles, are equal recipients of all of our appreciation initiatives.

Thank you to all 72 wonderful members of the Nixon school building; we appreciate you!

Teacher & Staff Appreciation

This year we really want to make sure our teachers, administrators and staff know how much we care! We have created a way to donate directly to Teacher & Staff Appreciation initiatives. All donations made here will go towards meals, goodie bags and THANK YOU events.

Teachers & Staff

Hundreds of items were purchased by our generous PTO members and Nixon Community. We are so appreciative of their donations!

If there are items on your wish list that you did not receive, remember that 32 teachers and staff have a PTO provided stipend to spend on items for their classroom or work area. You can purchase the items directly from the wish list and they will be delivered to the school for you. Submit a reimbursement form on our website to use your stipend.

If you are a staff member who does not have a budgeted stipend, please contact us at cochairs@nixonpto.org to see if the PTO can support your needs.
