SUBJECT: January 27th

Each of our dedicated volunteers have worked so hard this year to achieve our mission. They have taken on a lot of new tasks that never existed before and have expanded each of their roles to make sure our PTO stays functioning and financially stable.

Thank you to our small group of core volunteers who continue to give their energy and time to this organization.

Please join us, if only in a small way, to help this wonderful non-profit continue to do great things for our community.

If you'd like to be more involved, please contact Haley & Janelle at cochairs@nixonpto.org

Join our Staying Connected Campaign

During a time when keeping distance between us is necessary, we can still stay connected to one another. There are two ways to participate:

1. Sign-up to be a Nixon Pen Pal and receive a name and address of  another student to write and mail letters to. Purchase a stationery kit below or use your own materials.

2. Purchase a stationery kit or use your own materials to write to the people you care about at the school. You could write to multiple students, teachers or staff members.

Teachers and Staff - We would love for you to join in the campaign as well!

Please feel free to write to students or each other, letting them know how much you care.

We will provide some Staying Connected Stationery paper to the front office for your use.

February Teacher & Staff Appreciation

For Teacher and Staff appreciation on February 11th we are putting together a video montage of your children's messages. The theme this month is "Love is in the Air", so please record a quick message from your student sharing love, gratitude, and appreciation for all of those that work at Nixon.

It's quick, and easy!

Please submit videos by February 5th!

Teacher Spotlight

Meet Miss Morabito!

We hit quite the home run when a born and raised New York-New Jersey Yankee joined our Nixon team! She stepped up to bat at Boston College for undergraduate and graduate school innings, and somehow our little town of Sudbury became home plate!

She started at Nixon as a Special Education Assistant and after two years she became a 3rd grade classroom teacher. After five years in 3rd grade, she moved to 4th grade for many years. This year, back teaching in 3rd grade again, she feels supported by a great team, and says she is surrounded by amazing students and families.

Miss Morabito lives in North Framingham, not far from Callahan State Park where she loves to spend time with her five year old niece (shown in the picture) and two year old nephew. Luckily they live close by and she can visit them often. She absolutely loves being an Auntie and watching them grow up.

When it comes to her teaching philosophy she says:

"I feel it is so important to look at each child as a "whole" not just academically, but social-emotionally as well.  Each year, my goal is to create a classroom community where we appreciate each other and celebrate our differences. Together we work to support each other, and encourage each other to take risks, and recognize that making mistakes is part of learning (including me!)."

Outside of school she loves to take spin classes, but in the classroom she is known for taking movement breaks that turn into mini workouts! Like most teachers, she loves to read but also enjoys cooking. She loves Thanksgiving dinner and making her mom's stuffing recipe!

Miss Morabito's days are framed by the question of the day during morning meeting where she asks things like; if you could have any superpower, what would it be? Each day ends with a read aloud. This year, she and her class really enjoyed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

She believes:

"It is important for all of us in the class to recognize that there is not one measurement, or way, to be "smart". We all have our own unique strengths and talents, and we can all develop the mindset that can help us face challenges with determination and a positive attitude. I often tell my students to just remember two words: "Be Kind". Our students need to feel safe in every sense of the word in order to be ready and able to be successful learners!"

It is so wonderful to hear our team players talk about how they truly love what they do. Miss Morabito says:

"Simply put; I love what I do. I truly feel grateful to go to work each day doing something I love, with great colleagues, students, and families."

Simply put; we are the ones that are truly grateful. Miss Morabito has the enthusiasm for her students that every parent hopes for and the dedication to our community that extends beyond the school day. She is definitely a MVP among so many at Nixon. So, the next time you see her, please extend a Thank You for the hard work she does.
