Welcome 2022!

The PTO is back in full swing at the start of the new year! We have lots of new events and initiatives. Please consider signing up to volunteer to help as our small group of dedicated volunteers are spread thin!

We are all in this together as we brave another cold winter during a global pandemic. Now, more than ever we should rally together to ensure our kids make lasting memories during their six short years of elementary school. Please join us and share your ideas!

Statement of Strategic Plan

Dear Nixon PTO members:

Your co-chairs have been working on initiatives to build better connections with the staff at Nixon School; our slogan being “Help us put the T back in PTO!”. We have Talented staff, Terrific teachers and Thoughtful administrators and it’s our mission to support them in the best way we can. We have found that it’s challenging for staff to attend our PTO meetings and it’s also difficult for them to connect with PTO volunteers amongst their demanding workloads.

Staff Liaison

We will be creating a new PTO role. During the second half of this school year (January - June 2022) Tash Ross will act as a Staff Liaison and develop this new role. She will work on forming better and more frequent connections with staff.

Join the Executive Board as Interim Co-Chair

While Tash turns her attention to this new role, we would like to invite an Interim Co-chair to join our team January through June 2022. We will be looking for someone who is:

  • Dedicated to the PTO mission

  • Willing to actively learn the role of co-chair by leading new initiatives

  • Attend monthly meetings with Nixon Principals and District Superintendent

  • Plan to run for co-chair (two year term) in the spring 2022 election

The elected co-chair position entails frequent oversight of the overall mission and management of the essential operations of a non-profit organization. The elected co-chair time commitment is heavily dependent on our volunteer base but ranges between 3-15 hours per week. Some of the duties are:

  • Communicating effectively with volunteers and school/district employees by attending planning meetings, producing newsletters to inform the community, answering and addressing member questions and concerns, and hosting PTO member meetings

  • Managing general operations of a non-profit to include maintaining annual insurance coverage, maintaining website and email forwarding host services, and ensuring compliance with accounting and tax requirements in partnership with the co-treasurers

  • Partnering on special projects or new initiatives and collaborating on district initiatives as they arise

If you are interested in this volunteer position as Interim Co-chair, please email cochairs@NixonPTO.org
