Educational Enrichment

Our PTO uses $25,000 of your donation dollars to fund amazing programs which enrich the curriculum at Nixon School. We have volunteers for each grade who partner with the teachers to coordinate wonderful experiences for our kids. Here are some of the programs planned so far this year...

Nixon welcomes Jacqueline Davies

Outstanding author of some of our favorite books like Sydney & Taylor, The Lemonade War, The Bell Bandit and Panda Pants, comes to Nixon School. Jacqueline shares her experiences in becoming a writer and engages in a writer's workshop with each of the 4th and 5th grade classrooms.

Force & Magnetism

Students review the basics of force and motion and explore ideas of balanced and unbalanced forces while working with and learning about magnetic force. Scientists from the Discovery Museum work with the 3rd grade students to construct their own toy which uses the force of magnetism to move!

Force & Motion

What makes an object move? How do the forces of push and pull effect their motion and what happens when they collide? Kindergarteners will experience an interactive presentation from Discovery Museum scientists!

Light & Color

1st graders discover properties of light and color using flashlights, prisms, and colored acetates. They will use spinning tops to mix color before their eyes and conduct chromatography experiments with coffee filters and pens to observe the separation of color in ink.

Weather

Discovery Museum Scientists visit our young meteorologists, Nixon Kindergarteners, to talk about the important role of weather in every day life.

Physical Changes of Matter

2nd graders will discuss the properties of solids, liquids and gasses and watch an exciting demonstration using dry ice and liquid nitrogen! Super exciting!
